Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Fargo public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
2027 Capital Improvement Plan and 2028 street reconstruction
Final assessment lists were confirmed for 17 improvement districts — about $52 million across 6,835 parcels — plus two sidewalk projects. Property owners in those districts will see these costs on their tax bills.
64th Avenue South traffic calming and future I-29 interchange
The city is deciding whether to add interchange ramps at 64th Avenue and I-29 by 2028, a $25-30 million project with about $20 million in federal funds. Residents with driveways on 64th fear it will become another 32nd or 52nd Avenue; staff say the ramps would fix safety problems at the 52nd Avenue interchange.
2026 Construction Season and Sales Tax Dependence
The commission approved more than $14 million in contracts for street paving, water main, and utility improvement districts across Fargo, plus City Hall parking structure repairs. Expect construction activity on multiple projects this season.
